Fairfield Police Officers Endorsements

The Fairfield Police Officers Association takes endorsements seriously. Before we back a candidate or a ballot measure, we look at one thing: will this help keep Fairfield families and small businesses safe.

This page lists who we're endorsing this election, and why we're asking you to vote yes on Measure P.

Measure P
‍

The Fairfield Police Department is authorized for 98 sworn positions. Four are currently frozen, leaving 94 positions available to be filled.
‍
According to current Fairfield Police Officers Association figures, the department has 72 officers. Some are still in the academy or training process, while others are unavailable because of injury. After accounting for those personnel, the department currently has 61 deployable line officers. That number does not include sergeants or higher-ranking personnel.

The distinction matters. The number of positions authorized on paper is not the same as the number of trained officers actually available to answer calls, patrol neighborhoods, investigate crimes and provide other police services.

Measure P is also a significant source of revenue for the City of Fairfield's General Fund. The City reports that Measure P currently provides approximately $24.7 million annually, representing 16.6% of the General Fund, and that the proposed update is expected to generate approximately $28 million annually.

The City has identified maintaining police and fire services, rapid 911 response and neighborhood patrols among the purposes associated with the proposed measure.

Measure P is General Fund revenue. It is not a dedicated police personnel fund and does not guarantee a specific number of police officers.

For Fairfield residents, the issue is straightforward: there is a meaningful difference between the number of sworn positions the department is authorized to have and the number of officers currently available to serve the community.

The Fairfield Police Officers Association will continue advocating for the personnel and resources necessary to provide professional, responsive police service to Fairfield residents.
